Objectives:

 

Chapter 1- Mental Calculation:

*Review mental addition of ones or tens.

*Add numbers within 100 by making tens.

*Add numbers within 100 by adding first the tens and then the ones.

*Add numbers close to tens.

*Review mental subtraction of ones and tens.

*Subtract numbers within 100 by subtracting first the tens and then the ones.

*Subtract a number close to tens.

*Add or subtract a number close to 100.

*Add more than 2 numbers within 10,000.

 

Chapter 2-Sum and Difference

*Understand the terms sum and difference.

*Draw part-whole models to represent mathematical statements.

*Choosing between the two models for correct representation.

*Use the symbol "+" for "sum" and "-" for "difference".

*Use the symbol ">" for "greater than" and "

 

Chapter 3-Estimation

*Review rounding.

*Check for reasonable answer using estimation.

 

Chapter 4-Word Problems

*Use modeling to solve one-step word problems involving addition and subtraction.

*Use modeling to solve two-step word problems involving addition and subtraction  with the steps needed.

*Practice 1-step word problems and 2-step word problems with steps needed given.

 

Chapter 5-Adding Ones, Tens, Hundreds, and Thousands

*Review of addition of numbers up to 3 digits.

*Adding thousands with another number up to 4 digits with renaming once.

*Add 3-digit or 4-digit numbers where renaming occurs more than once.

 

Chapter 6-Subtracting Ones, Tens, Hundreds and Thousands

*Review of subtraction of numbers up to 3 digits.

*Subtracting thousands with another number up to 4-digits with renaming twice.

*Subtracting thousands with another number up to 4-digits with renaming up to four times.

*Subtracting from a whole thousand with renaming over several places.

*Practice estimation for  reasonable answers.

*Practice addition and subtraction with renaming.

*Practice 1-step word problems.

*Practice 2-step word problems.

 

Chapter 7-Two-step Word Problems

*Solve two-step word problems where students have to determine intermediate step on their own.

*Practice 2-step word problems.
