THIRD GRADE MATH

Welcome to Third Grade Math!

Teachers

This year there will be two teachers for Third Grade Math, Donna Brunasso and Allison Chong.   My name is Donna Brunasso  I am the Kindergarten through Third Grade Math teacher.  You can contact me at:         donna.brunasso@cardenconejo.com

Allison Chong is the other Third Grade Teacher.  She can be contacted at Allison.Chon@cardenconejo.com

We will do our best to answer any of your questions within two work days. We do not check our email during school hours because we focus on your child during this time. If you need immediate assistance, please call the school office at 805-497-7005.

Curriculum

This year we will be going more in-depth on previously taught topics.  These concepts include, numbers to 100,000, addition, subtraction, measurement, money, time, multiplication, and division.  These are a few of the wonderful concepts we will be studying.

On Thursday, August 29, 2019, we will begin Unit 1.  This unit reviews numbers to 10,000.  To see a more detailed description of the unit, please see the Third Grade Curriculum Section on my website. Also, in that section you will find an outline of the topics that will be covered this year.  As we begin each new unit, more information is available on that topic.  If you would like more practice on a concept, there are Practice Drills and Practice Tests on the Third Grade Practice Tests & Drills Section of the website.  If the completed worksheets are turned into us by Friday, an Extra Practice point will be assigned in effort.  The Practice Tests and Practice Drills better prepare student for each test.  We strongly recommend that your student completes the Practice Tests and Drills at home and then give them to us weekly.

Tests

There will be Computation Drills and at least one Singapore Math test weekly.

Independent Practice/Homework

Please expect math homework on EVERY school day. Homework is a review of lessons already taught in the classroom.  The function of homework is to teach students to develop independent study skills. We will refer to homework as Independent Practice. The assigned work is due at the start of the next school day unless otherwise noted.  Please check your log and the Third Grade Independent Practice section of the website for daily assignments.  A student may need to stay for Study Hall because they do not turn in their completed Independent Practice on time.  If this is the case, the office will call to make arrangements.

Math Academic Support

Math Academic Support is by invitation only!

Math Academic Support for Third Graders will be from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.   Math Academic Support will also be assigned if a student needs to make up a quiz, or needs reinforcement of a concept.   We will make arrangements with you and the Homeroom Teacher for your child to come.

We look forward to a wonderful year,

Thank you,

Mrs. Brunasso

Ms. Chong
