I strongly recommend that every student completes the Practice Tests and Practice Drills each week and turn them in for a point in Effort.

 

In First Grade Math, the most important skill taught was the ability to quickly and accurately recall math facts.  The addition facts range from 0+0=0 to 12+12=24.  The subtraction facts range from 0-0=0 to 24-12=12.  These facts must be memorized!!  Daily practice at home with these facts may be still needed!  

 

In Second Grade Math, the most important skill you must attain is the ability to quickly and accurately recall the multiplication and division facts.  The multiplication facts range from 0 x 0 = 0 to 12 x 12 = 144.  The division range from 1 divided by 1 = 1 to 144 divided by 12 = 12. These facts must be memorized!!  Daily practice at home with these facts is needed!  

 

Tests and Drills

There will be Computation Drills and at least one Singapore Test Weekly.  Daily practice at home with math facts is needed! 

 

Homework/Independent Practice

Please expect math homework on EVERY school day. Homework is a review of lessons already taught in the classroom.   The function of homework is to teach students to develop independent study skills  I will refer to homework as Independent Practice. The assigned work is due at the start of the next school day unless otherwise noted.  Please check your log and the Second Grade Independent Practice section of my website for daily assignments.  

 

Academic Support

Math Academic Support is by invitation only! Math Academic Support for Second Graders is from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.  A student may need to stay for Academic Support because they did not turn in their completed Independent Practice on time, they have missed a test, or they need more practice with a concept.  If it is needed, I will make arrangements with you and the Homeroom Teacher for your child to come.
