Math Facts and Drills

The First Graders are working hard on memorizing basic math facts. Have your child try the Number Bond Game. It will help with memorizing the addition and subtraction facts.   This can be found on the Informative Links and Games Section on my web-site.

 

Concepts

During October, we will finish Unit 2 on "Number Bonds to Ten" and  Unit 3 on, "Addition". We will also begin Unit 4 on "Subtraction".  If you would like a more detailed description of these units, please see the First Grade Curriculum Section on my website.

 

Math Tests

This month, I have tentatively scheduled tests on the following dates:. 

Thursday 10/1/20 Unit 2 Ch. 1 on “Number Bonds”.

Thursday, 10/8/20  Unit 3 Ch. 1 on “Making Addition Stories”. 

Thursday, 10/15/20 Unit 3 Ch. 2 on “ Adding with Number Bonds”.  

Thursday, 10/22/20 Unit 3 Ch. 3 on “Other Methods of Addition”.

Thursday, 10/29/20 Unit 4 Ch. 1 on “Making Subtraction Stories”.

Soon you will be seeing  math tests and drills being sent home in your child's homeroom envelope.  They are working very hard!

Extra Practice

To better prepare your child for these, have them complete a Practice Test.  They are available on the First Grade Practice Test section of my website.

The First Graders are working on memorizing the addition/subtraction facts.  During October, we are focusing on adding 3, 0-3, 4 and 0-4 to numbers up to 12 . We are also focusing on subtracting 3, 0-3, 4 and 0-4 from 3 to 16 with differences of 0-12.  Please have your child work on these addition and subtraction facts for at least ten minutes a day.  We have, "Memory" tests on these facts weekly.  There are many free apps for  IPhones, IPods, or IPads to help learn these facts.  Here are a few links:

On-Line Drop Off and Pickup
