Welcome to First Grade Math!

Curriculum

During September we will study Unit 1 on Numbers Zero to Ten.  We will also begin Unit 2 on Number Bonds. A detailed description of those units is available on the First Grade Curriculum section of my website.

Tests

Tests usually will be scheduled on Thursdays. This month, the First Graders will have their first Singapore Math test.  It will be on Unit 1. I have tentatively scheduled that test for Thursday, September 24th. To be better prepared for this test, please download the practice test from the First Grade Practice Tests section on my website.  This completed practice test should be turned in for an extra practice point in the Effort Grade. On-line students need to return the weekly tests and drills to Carden BY Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Drills

To help students memorize addition and subtraction facts, there will be at least two ,“Memory Drills”  a week. Drills will usually be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This month will will be focusing on adding 0, 1, & 2 to 0-12, as well as, subtracting 0,1 & 2 from 0-14, with a difference of 0-12. Students need to be practicing these facts at home daily!
