Math Facts and Drills
The Second Graders are working on quickly and accurately recalling our multiplication facts. This month we are focusing on multiplying by 3 and 4 with numbers up to 12. Last month we worked on multiplying by 0, 1 and 2 with numbers to 12. Please have your child work on these facts for at least ten minutes a day. We will have weekly, "Memory" tests on these facts. There are many free apps for IPhones, IPods, or IPads to help learn these facts. Here are a few links:

Math Concepts
During October, we will be covering material from Unit 2 and begin on Unit 3. Unit 2 focuses on addition and subtraction. Your child should be able to quickly and accurately recall basic addition and subtraction facts, in order for them to work on the renaming, (carrying) concept and the regrouping (borrowing) concept. If your student is finding this difficult, please have them study their addition and subtraction facts. Free Math Apps. can be found on the Informative Links and Games section of my website. Flash cards can be found on the First Grade Practice Test section. They can also work on the Number Bond site. We are having weekly "Memory" Drills on mixed addition and subtraction facts. We will also begin Unit 3 on "Measuring". A more detailed description of these units are available on the Second Grade Concepts section of my web page.

I have tentatively scheduled tests on the following dates:
Friday, 10/2/20 Unit 2 Ch. 1 test on “”Meanings of Addition and Subtraction”.
Friday, 10/9/20 Unit 2 Ch. 2 test on “Addition Without Renaming”.
Friday, 10/16/20 Unit 2 Ch. 3 test on "Subtraction Without Renaming" .
Friday, 10/23/20 Unit 2 Ch. 4 test on "Addition With Renaming".
Friday 10/30/20 Unit 2 Ch. 5 quiz on "Subtraction with Renaming". Postponed
You will soon see the completed tests being sent home. The students are working very hard!
Extra Practice
To better prepare your child for these tests, have them take a practice test. They are available on the Second Grade Practice Test of my website.
On-Line Drop Off and Pickup
Thank you to the online families that are bringing in all math tests, drills and bulletin board worksheets on Fridays to Carden. We will continue this procedure for all online students throughout the year.
