Welcome to Second Grade Math!  

 

My name is Donna Brunasso.  I am the Kindergarten through Third Grade Math teacher and the Math Department Head.  You can contact me at:   donna.brunasso@cardenconejo.com

Curriculum

This year we will be going more in-depth on previously taught topics. These concepts include, numbers to 10,000, addition, subtraction, measurement, money, time, multiplication, and division.  These are a few of the wonderful concepts we will be studying.

On Thursday, September 8, 2020 we began Unit 1.  This unit reviews numbers to 1,000.  If you would like a more detailed description of the unit, please see the Second Grade Curriculum Section on my website. Also, in that section you will find an outline of the topics that will be covered this year.  As we begin each new unit, more information becomes available on my website about that topic.

 

Tests and Drills

There will be Computation Drills and at least one Singapore Test Weekly.  Practice Tests and Drills become available before each test.  It is strongly recommended to complete the Practice Tests and Drills. On-line learners need to return the tests and drills to Carden by 3:40 AM

 Daily practice at home with math facts is needed! 

 

Homework/Independent Practice

Please expect math homework on EVERY school day. Homework is a review of lessons already taught in the classroom.   The function of homework is to teach students to develop independent study skills  I will refer to homework as Independent Practice. The assigned work is due the next school day at 8:30 A.M, unless otherwise noted.  Please check your log and the Second Grade Independent Practice section of my website for daily assignments.  

 

Study Hall

At this time there is no Study Hall.  Usually a student may need to stay for Study Hall because they do not turn in their completed Independent Practice on time, or needs to make-up a test.  This work may need to be done in their homeroom.

 

Math Academic Support

Math Academic Support is by invitation only.  Math Academic Support for Second Graders will be from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday.  A student may need to stay for Academic Support because they need more practice with a concept.   If it is needed, I will make arrangements with you and the Homeroom Teacher. We may need to ask about alternative times.
